Z Energy joins Clearhead for an integrated approach to wellbeing

About

Z Energy is one of New Zealand’s largest and best known fuel companies. It has around 450 employees spanning the length and breadth of Aotearoa.

Z recognised the need to better foster the wellbeing of staff and identify and minimise the risks to wellbeing within the organisation.

As part of an overall re-examination of employee wellbeing, Z Energy opted to switch to Clearhead as their new EAP provider in October 2022.

Improved Uptake

One of Z Energy’s priorities was to make specialist support and therapy more widely available. Before Clearhead, only around 3% of Z staff engaged with their EAP provider.

After 12 months, 49% of staff had signed up to use Clearhead, and 9% had utilised therapy support. A key reason for the increase in therapy is the way Clearhead makes therapy accessible and transparent, with the ability to choose your own therapist and session times, and minimal wait time.

Proactive wellbeing support

As well as access to therapy, Clearhead offers a variety of tools that enable staff to self-manage their own wellbeing. 25% of Z Energy employees have utilised Clearhead’s monthly live webinars with world-leading experts, breathing exercises or other wellbeing resources such as daily mood journaling regularly.

Where traditional EAP services focus on providing therapy and little else, Clearhead enables staff to proactively build resilience and tend to their mental health before reaching crisis point.

Z are committed to providing workplaces that enable safe, productive, and engaging work that enhances physical and mental wellbeing.

Z believe that Wellbeing is an outcome achieved in partnership between an individual and the organisation, and is a risk to be managed like any other risk.

Clearhead has helped Z Energy manage wellbeing risks, and support wellbeing with specialist support. Quarterly wellbeing reports from Clearhead have identified specific psychosocial hazards and enabled Z Energy to target areas for improvement and track the impact of wellbeing initiatives.

The effect has been profound. Peakon Health & Wellbeing indicators remain within the top 5% global benchmark. Employees report being productive at a 4:1 ratio to those who say they’re unproductive. This compares to the previous 0.7:1 ratio, where more staff reported being unproductive than productive.
