Kia ora, I'm Miriam, a health psychologist with well over a decade of clinical experience. Stress, worry, low mood, health challenges, sleep problems and difficult relationships can all impact on how we live and enjoy our lives. I love using and sharing psychology strategies with my clients to help improve their wellbeing. I am based in the Waikato; however, I mostly see clients via Zoom. I find psychology via Zoom can be very successful. In preparing for an appointment, I recommend my clients have a confidential space to talk freely, minimising disruptions by closing other tabs on their computer and turning off the 'self-view' setting on Zoom (we wouldn't normally look at ourselves in the mirror during a psychology appointment, so we don't need this in videoconferencing either). This helps replicate the important successful elements of an in-person appointment; without the travel and associated extra time. I can't make my clients a cuppa when we're on Zoom, but they are welcome to BYO! I take a strength-based, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach and work with my clients on their goals. I teach my clients psychology tools to help them manage with work and life stressors and other problems such as worry, grief, anxiety and depression. I have extensive experience working with people with health conditions including heart problems, respiratory conditions, pain, fatigue, cancer and more recently long covid. I understand the environment and stressors faced by healthcare workers and also offer psychology sessions and supervision to health professionals.
