Biography

Introduction: Hi there I'm Michelle Hallis - D'Souza, a trained and registered ACC Sensitive Claims Trauma Provider, Social Worker & Addictions Practitioner and Mental Health Crisis Supervisor. I am a member of ANZASW, and an accredited member and clinical Supervisor with DAPAANZ. I am based in Dunedin, but offer online sessions to all of New Zealand. I offer in - person appointments to people living in the Dunedin and surrounding suburbs: Taieri, Mosgiel, Outram, South Dunedin, Central Dunedin to name a few. I am double vaxxed and happy to wear a mask during face to face interactions and/or maintain the required safe distance, if this makes you more comfortable. Past Work Experience: My work history has been in the areas of care and protection, statutory and community sectors, mental health and addictions (drug, alcohol, gambling and coexisting disorders). Whilst I truly enjoyed my work journey to date, I believe of significant value is the trauma work and my role as coordinator of a parents programme supporting parents transitioning back into the community with parenting and life skills and reuniting families where possible. In addition was being project lead with the Health Promotion Agency, introducing abstinence and harm reduction programmes to pregnant women and new parents battling addictions. Modus Operandi: I describe my working style as holding a holistic view of treatment, being eclectic and collaborative in nature, enjoy using various ways of engaging clients in my sessions, meet my clients at where they are and believe in the empowerment of the individual with some assistance along the way. Outside of work hours, I am a wife and a mother to 2 beautiful children who keep me centered, honest and challenged in different ways. I enjoy relaxing by spending time baking, music, dance and love the outdoors in beautiful Aotearoa.
