Biography

Leigh Anderson (clinical psychologist) and Anne Lian (doctor) will be co-facilitating a Peer Support Group for doctors on Wednesdays at 7pm-8.15pm. The Facilitated Peer Support Groups are designed to offer doctors support via their peers, with the facilitators there to allow the group to work well together. These groups are designed for personal and professional support and development rather than as mental health treatment or diagnosis. At this stage, these peer support groups are only eligible for NZ medical doctors. Leigh Anderson holds a Ph.D in Psychology from the University of Otago and trained as a clinical psychologist at the University of Canterbury. She is a Fellow of the NZ College of Clinical Psychologists (FNZCCP) and represents clinical psychologists in the Rural Health Alliance Aotearoa NZ (RHAANZ). Leigh worked in a range of roles over the past decade including in physical and mental health settings and for the Department of Corrections, before developing her own private practice in rural and urban Canterbury. She works with emergency services workers and health personnel, as well as with the general public, and has a special interest in trauma and equity of access for rural populations. Dr Anne Lian is a medical doctor, graduating from the University of Otago in 2011. Her experience includes several years training as a Psychiatry registrar in the Auckland region. She is currently living in Germany while on parental leave, and looks forward to co-facilitating this peer support group
