Biography

In 2001, I was employed by the Taylor centre, a community mental health centre run by ADHB. I have also undertaken further post graduate study and completed the, Gottman Method Couples’ Therapy Level I,II and III, Certificate in DBT and level 1 and 2 of EMDR. My clinical practice is such that I can evaluate and treat clients within these frameworks (CBT, Gottman, DBT & EMDR). I left NZ in 2004 and lived and worked in the Asia Pacific region as an expatriate until my return to NZ in March 2015. Over this time I expanded my skill set to meet the needs of my clients. I have extensive experience working with personality disorders, infidelity, communication problems between partners, and intimacy issues. I have a deep understanding of the many issues and difficulties surrounding the relocation of a family internationally. The counselling framework that I use is Cognitive behavioural therapy and is based on the belief that our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours are directly related to each other and influence the way that we feel and think about ourselves, our families, and the world around us. As a therapist I help to guide clients through the process of understanding, identifying and restructuring negative thoughts, beliefs, and behaviours that foster emotional distress, and psychological illness. I believe in a collaborative non-judgmental approach to therapy.
