Biography

Kia ora, my name is Jennifer and I am a Clinical Psychologist. I provide psychological therapy for children, adolescents and adults online and in Auckland (Albany or Parnell). My therapy approach draw most often on Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, family and attachment work, and mindfulness though I do draw flexibly from ideas and techniques across the field. I also have training in Brainspotting. The most important person to my approach is your experience of it, and so I invite your ongoing feedback during our sessions. I am interested in your strengths coming through from your individual, family and/or cultural history as part as understanding where you have come from as well as how your difficulties came to be. I also aim to keep the surrounding family/whānau, social/occupational and community/iwi environment in mind, especially for those from culturally diverse or marginalised backgrounds. My interests include: - Anxiety, OCD - Depression - Family relationships - Intergenerational trauma - Grief and loss - Loneliness - Adjustment issues - Perfectionism - Procrastination - Burnout (e.g. carer, work, parental) - Cultural or cross-cultural difficulties - Impact of wider social issues, social media, discrimination and/or stigma on wellbeing I have a particular interest in the richness of cultures (such as in languages and metaphors) as a resource for supporting a person’s wellbeing. I have some (varying) levels of fluency in Cantonese and Mandarin. For children, teenagers or other dependents, the work I offer will almost always involve working with parents/families as a young person’s most important support system. I do not have fixed office/clinic hours and can offer the best availability and flexibility when it comes to online appointments. Face to face appointments may be subject to venue availability from time to time. Given this type of flexibility in my work schedule, you are also welcome to enquire about my availability directly (for example through my Talking Works profile) if you have particular days/times in mind. After I have confirmed an appointment with you, I will send you an email invitation to gather your basic details and consent form through an online patient portal. I would ask that you complete this prior to our appointment.
