For more than 16 years Denise has been counselling people of all ages: adults, older adults, adolescents, and children. These include couples and students at primary, secondary, and tertiary level, and agency work at various locations in Auckland. People come to Denise with a variety of issues and needs: for general counselling, couple relationships, grief, loss, stress, anxiety, depression, anger, conflict, self-esteem, decision-making, communication, work, employment, study, relationships, stress, building resilience, self esteem, confidence, pregnancy, baby loss, abortion and post-abortion, cultural, migration, illness, ageing, and disability. She is warm and sensitive in her approach. Her life experiences of having an initial career as an Occupational Therapist, having an Asian husband, having lived overseas, and having brought up a family means that she is able to relate well to people of different cultures and ethnic backgrounds and ages and stages. Denise uses a predominantly Client-centred approach to which she integrates elements from a number of other counselling approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis and Narrative Therapy. She also uses creative methods such as Drawing Therapy, Writing and Action Methods.
