I have been a Counsellor for 12 years, something which happened as a very lucky accident. I should explain that I have lived in New Zealand for 8 years and this is now my home, not quite like Wales but with many similarities. Currently I am a part time Guidance Counsellor working at a school with students, aged 11 – 18, their caregivers, staff and I also work part time in private practice. Most of my private practice clients are adults, the issues they bring are varied and often include anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, both family and work related, addiction and trauma. I enjoy working with a variety of clients and this allows me to use various therapeutic modalities according to the needs of the client. In my previous life in the UK while working in Tertiary Education I was involved in supporting administrative staff through a major organization restructure with a target of 50% redundancy. In my current role I support teaching staff as they try to manage their everyday life issues as well as dealing with the needs of students and the expectations of caregivers. At the moment we are all dealing with the extra uncertainty as created as Covid continues to impact on our everyday lives and this in itself is very stressful for some. I hope to provide a place where clients can feel comfortable to talk about their issues and to learn more about themselves and how to move forward in their lives.
